Gearbox tuning in Eastbourne & Coventry£179, where the box supports it

A gearbox file for automatics that shift in the wrong place. With a Stage 1 on the same visit, both are £299. A replacement gearbox computer is programming and cloning, not this page.

What we offer

What the gearbox file is for

The speed limiter and the rev limit are included where that gearbox stores them. They are not a second bill on top of the £179. A limiter that lives only in the engine is an option on the remapping page.

Included

Shift feel

Gear changes can be made firmer and shorter, or smoother, where that gearbox software allows it. It is set for how you drive. Launch or a sharper kickdown is included only where that software already has it. It is not promised on every DSG or ZF.

£299 with Stage 1

With an engine remap

After a Stage 1 or Stage 2, some gearboxes still change up too early or limit torque. The gearbox file lets the box use what the engine is now producing. Sometimes the standard gearbox map is still the safer choice. We say which before you pay.

Where it is stored there

Speed limiter in the gearbox

Some cars limit top speed in the engine, some in the gearbox, and some in both. We check which one it is, so you are not charged twice. Tell your insurer. A limiter the law requires on that vehicle is not removed.

Where it can take it

Rev limit in the gearbox

Some autos also cut revs in the gearbox computer. It is raised only where the engine and the gearbox can take it. Refused on a tired or standard box that cannot.

TCU / gearbox module

A factory update, or programming a gearbox computer after a replacement, is not a tune. That lives on programming and cloning.

Learn / adaptations

After a repair, some boxes need a learn procedure. That is diagnostics, not a performance map.

Can it be put back to standard?

Sometimes. It depends on the gearbox. On some units the original file can be written back. On others it cannot, or the gearbox will not drive as it did before. Keeping a copy of the original file is not a promise that the unit will accept it again. Where the vehicle shows that, we say so before anything is written. If the car has to return to standard later, tell us before the visit.

Workflow

How a gearbox visit works

  1. 01

    Tell us the car

Registration, postcode, gearbox type if you know it, and whether an engine map is already booked. Say if the car must be able to go back to standard.

  2. 02

    We confirm support

Not every automatic has a file. You get a yes or a no, and one price, before anyone is booked.

  3. 03

    We come to you

Home, work or workshop. The first 10 miles are included. Travel after that is on the pricing page.

  4. 04

    Read, write, check

The original file is saved where that unit allows a full read. The new file is written, then the shifts are checked. Nothing is written if the box is already slipping.

Why Solaris

Quoted per gearbox. Refused when it should be.

High-mileage, slipping or already-faulty gearboxes get a no. A file is not a trial on a worn clutch.

Two bases

Eastbourne and Coventry, plus surrounding Sussex and Midlands postcodes. Check the coverage map for yours.

Same-visit option

Added to a remap on the same day, the gearbox file is +£129. Stage 1 and the gearbox together are £299.

No miracle boxes

A tune will not fix a worn clutch pack or a mechatronic fault. If it already slips, the job stops.

Trade files separate

Workshops that already have the gearbox read use the dealer portal, not this mobile visit.

FAQ

Gearbox questions

How much is gearbox tuning?
£179 on its own visit. Added to an engine remap on the same day it is +£129. Stage 1 and the gearbox together are £299. Travel may apply after 10 miles.
What does the gearbox file change?
Shift timing and how firm the changes feel, where that gearbox allows it, plus a gearbox speed limiter or rev limit where those limits are stored in the gearbox and the hardware can take it.
Can a gearbox tune be reversed?
Sometimes. It depends on the gearbox. On some units the original file can be written back. On others it cannot, or the gearbox will not drive as it did before. Keeping a copy of the original is not a promise that it can be restored. If the car must be able to return to standard, say so before the visit.
Do you tune every automatic?
No. Many DSG units and some ZF units are supported. Others are checked one by one. Send the exact vehicle and we confirm before quoting a visit.
Should I do gearbox and engine together?
Often yes, if the engine torque is being raised. Sometimes the standard gearbox map is still the safer choice. We say which before you pay. Together with a Stage 1, the price is £299.
Is a gearbox module update a tune?
No. Updating or programming a TCU after a swap is programming and cloning. This page is a shift and limiter file only.
Do you cover Eastbourne and Coventry?
Yes. Those are the two bases, plus surrounding Sussex and Midlands postcodes. Check coverage or call 07342 340449.
Will it make the gearbox last less?
An aggressive file on a tired gearbox is a bad idea. We check how the box is behaving first. If it is already slipping or faulting, we do not write it.

Want the gearbox quoted with a remap?

Send the vehicle and gearbox type. We will say if that box is supported, whether both should be done on the same visit, and whether it can be put back to standard.
